WHAT IS SABBATH REST ABOUT?
Are personal relationships about rules?
Why was the Sabbath the main conflict between Jesus and Israel's leaders?
Rest is God's blessing to you.

OUR CULTURE IS PRESSING US INTO ISOLATION.
Isolation can lead to misery.
Where do we find hope?
We need reminders of what Christ has achieved for us.
And we need each other.

WHAT IS LOVE? - ANOTHER CHRISTMAS SURPRISE
Is love a feeling, an action, a commitment, or something deeper?
Might the world and devil have a counterfeit of love to confuse us with?
Jesus came to reveal the love of God, to save God's people from their sins.
What does this mean?
There is a spiritual war raging: the love of God versus the love of the world.

WHAT IS JOY? - A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE
Sermon Visual Aid
Christmas is the celebration of God’s anticipation of His goodness breaking into our world to create a new place of dependence on His goodness. He came to identify with us in our humanity, to die as our substitute carrying our obligation to goodness, so that we could enter into life in His faithfulness free from the pressure of our own.
Passages referred to:
Luke 2:1-20 - God's good anticipation of peace is revealed to shepherds.
Isaiah 26:12 - We have peace because God has done for us all our work.
Isaiah 42:21 - God is well pleased for His righteousness' sake to exalt the law.
Gal 5:22 - Joy is a fruit of the Spirit.
Jer 31:14 - "My people will be satisfied with My goodness."
What is the fruit of satisfaction with God's goodness? joy and a heart overflowing with goodness and good works.
Heb 1:9 - Jesus love righteousness and hated lawlessness. He was the gladest man who ever lived. Joy is connected to righteousness.
Satan wants us to forget the context of life, and thus impair our experience of God's goodness. This impairs our joy.
good joy: Matthew 5:10-12; 13:16-17;
impaired joy: Luke 10:17-20
Let's fill words with meaning, thank God often for details of how His goodness is our satisfaction,
and thus fill Christmas (and all other days) with joy.
